"> Frequently Asked Questions about CobaltAlloy™ Tubing

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CobaltAlloy™ Production Tubing?

CobaltAlloy™ Oilfield tubing features a protective layer with "mechano-tribological" properties ... engineered for abrasion resistance, corrosion protection and chemical protection, yet still maintains excellent impact resistance. A unique protective internal layer of ceramic and metal alloys to protect the production tubing from damage during artificial lift operations.

Are CobaltAlloy™ Tubing Pup Joints available?

YES, a full range of CobaltAlloy™ tubing pup joints are available with the CobaltAlloy™ surface treatment process. Preventing coupling corrosion to ensure longer lifecycle of your critical production tubing.

Are CobaltAlloy™ Tubing Couplings treated for abrasion and corrosion protection?

YES, CobaltAlloy™ Tubing Couplings also have an internal protective layer to prevent corrosion between the threaded connections and is also compatible with Cobalt® Sucker Rod Guides to offer a unique rod pumped well completion package.

What if we prefer to install L-80, N-80, P-110 grades of production tubing?

CobaltAlloy™ features reduced friction, lower wear, reduced corrosion, open flow, reduced torque and drag, increased production and reduced well workovers.

CobaltAlloy™ Production tubing is available in any API tubing grade or size. Other heat treated or plated tubing alternatives are limited to J55 only.

How can we increase well production using CobaltAlloy™ oilfield tubing?

CobaltAlloy™ tubing is 30x smoother than new "untreated" tubing. The very low co-efficient of friction ensures minimum production fluid drag and reduced downhole torque and rotational friction.

CobaltAlloy™ Production tubing is also ideal for ESP and ESPCP well completions.

Is CobaltAlloy™ Tubing compatible with Sucker Rod Guides?

The unique CobaltAlloy™ protective surface has been engineered to be compatible with Cobalt Premium Sucker Rod Guides.

CobaltAlloy™ tubing and ARPMAX Polymer Rod Guides will optimize rod pumped well completions. Cobalt Sucker ROd Guides have a unique (patent pending) "Self-Lubricating" lubricant for a very low co-efficient of friction and longer rod guide wear resistance.

Are there any special handling requirements for installing CobaltAlloy™ tubing?

CobaltAlloy™ tubing can be installed using the same equipment as standard production tubing.

Refer to CobaltAlloy™ Tubing Installation Procedures.

How does CobaltAlloy™ Production Tubing save on downtime and costs?

The CobaltAlloy™ asset cost is significantly lower than hardened tubing alternatives. Typically, CobaltAlloy™ Production Tubing lasts 3x longer than standard "untreated" steel tubing, depending on well operating conditions and well completion design.

Why choose CobaltAlloy™ production tubing?

The CobaltAlloy™ Thermo-Mechanical protective layer is 0.017" (0.450mm) thick. That equates to more than double the protection of your production tubing when compared to high cost thermo-chemical tubing treatments which are only 0.008" thick.

What is the Maximum Operating Temperature of CobaltAlloy Production Tubing?

CobaltAlloy™ production tubing is effective in a variety of producing environments including H2S, CO2 flood, water flood, and steam injection, and can be used in wells with operating temperatures as high as 300F (150C)

How does CobaltAlloy™ compare with Heat Treated or Plated tubing?

Heat Treated or Plated tubing have been proven to suffer from "Micro-Cracking". This is a result of thermal fatigue and bending. Heat treated tubing requires each joint to be re-straightened after the tubing cools  following removal from the furnace. Therefore the internal surface has micro-cracks, as well as thermal fatigue (weakening) of the tubing metallurgy. Micro-cracking leads to premature failure due to corrosion.

The CobaltAlloy™ Internal protective layer does not effect the original tubing metallurgy characteristics, will not split or micro-crack, will prevent corrosion, scale buildup and abrasive wear, even when installed in deviated well completions. CobaltAlloy™ is ideal for installation in PCP wells where sucker rod oscillation is very common.
